How consumers are getting familiar with biometric technology
Authentication by biometric devices is a trend nowadays. Since it’s a new and convenient technology, customers worldwide are still discovering its simple and secured features which are being deployed everywhere.

How do you unlock your smartphone? How many times per day? Pin codes have been replaced by biometric authentication, in which fingerprint and facial scan are taking the lead. The offered convenience impacts directly the way we interact with devices. For instance a person unlocks her/his smartphone 52 times per day on average, a teenager or millennial, 152 times a day. Beyond the practical side, the action itself is secured and allows the adoption of biometrics in other fields as people are getting more and more used. Facial, fingerprint, voice or iris are the main forms of biometrics in a daily basis deployment.

The fear of identity theft was number 1 answer of global customers, 37% said that it would turn them off from using biometric technology. But the technology convenience would step ahead this feeling of fear. Instead of using a PIN for credit card, customers said it’s safer and more comfortable to store biometric data directly on their cards.

Three major interests of consumers are checked by biometric technology: Security, convenience and privacy.
61% of global consumers have an average of more than 10 transactions a month using payment cards at physical stores/ merchants. We can consider that most part of them surpass 30 transactions. For these consumers, forgetting their card PIN is similar to a nightmare. In the last 18 months, 54% of global consumers have forgotten their PIN code, to avoid this headache, 82% said they would replace normal PIN by biometric authentication while using credit cards.
One of the big advantages of biometric authentication is the unlimited ceiling for contactless payments, beyond the security and convenience it can offer. 72% of customers would accept a biometric card offering the three major concerns.
